Cerussite is a mineral that has some interesting physical, chemical, and mystical properties. Here are some of them:

  • Physical properties: Cerussite is a lead carbonate mineral that forms orthorhombic crystals. It has a hardness of 3 to 3.5, a density of 6.53 to 6.57, and a white streak. It can be colorless, white, gray, or pale yellow, but also show other colors due to impurities. It has a high dispersion, which gives it a fire or rainbow-like effect. It also fluoresces yellow under UV light. It can form various crystal habits and complex twins, such as v-shaped, star-shaped, heart-shaped, six-rayed, and wheat sheaf. For hundred of years it was used as a pigment for white paint. Cerussite is brittle and fragile, and dissolves in dilute nitric acid
  • Chemical properties: Cerussite has the chemical formula PbCO3, which means it consists of lead (Pb) and carbonate (CO3) ions. It belongs to the aragonite group of carbonates, along with aragonite, strontianite, and witherite. It can accommodate small amounts of Ca, Ba, and Sr as impurities, which can affect its color. It is a secondary mineral, meaning it forms from the alteration of other minerals, especially galena, which is the primary ore of lead. Cerussite is a source of lead, which has many industrial uses, but also poses a health risk due to its toxicity12
  • Mystical properties (Attributable by Some): Cerussite is a crystal of responsibility, strength, and growth. It helps one to recognize what needs to be changed or released in one’s life. It enhances communication and active listening skills. It also promotes group bonding, grounding, and guidance. It is useful for members of psychic development circles, as it facilitates spiritual connections and insights. Cerussite is associated with the crown chakra, and can help to balance and align the chakras. It also aids in past life recall and healing4
