Kazakhstan produced some very fine calcites, The Rudny area of Kazakhstan was once a consistent and abundant producer of ore and specimens alike. Mining produced many handsome pieces (particularly golden yellow calcites) that could be found readily and relatively steadily in the mineral market. However, the supply has dwindled since its last major find (circa the 1990s). Since then, these distinctive calcites have become a sought-after specialty that many equate with the region. Crystals tend towards a light-yellow coloring and the most desirable examples are attractive, twinned crystals with nice translucence. Send
